Back To School FYI

BACK TO SCHOOL 2023-2024

Welcome to Ms. Mackay's  2nd Grade!

*BIRTHDAYS*

We love celebrating birthdays!!  You are welcome to send in a special non-food treat for your child’s birthday. We will celebrate with a special birthday blessing and songs.  Summer birthdays may be celebrated any time throughout the year.  Fun options to consider:  birthday themed pencils, seashells, river rocks, glow sticks, bookmarks, paper airplanes, etc.  We have 25 amazing 2nd Graders in our class!

*BUDDIES*

Second Graders are buddies with the students in Sixth Grade.  We meet several times throughout the year for friendship, games, and fun learning activities.   Our first Buddy Activity is planned for September.  Your child will be completing a “Getting to Know You” activity with their new buddy!

*CLASS Expectations & RULES*

If your concern requires immediate attention (a change in lunch or dismissal plans) please call the school.
Be sure to check out our Google Classroom for optional weekly resources and activities!

*CONFERENCES*

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled in October.  During our conference we will be discussing your child’s accomplishments, strengths, and overall progress.  Conferences may also be scheduled at any time during the year if the need arises.

*FIELD TRIPS*

We plan field trips that are both fun and educational for the students.  We often need parent volunteers to chaperone.  All chaperones must have completed the volunteer screening.  Please email or call Ms. Lisa Felton in the school office for information.

*HOMEWORK*

What you can expect:

·         Monday-Thursday:  Math Worksheet(s) and Spelling
·
·         Every day:  Read for 20 minutes (at least!)

·         On occasion:  Social Studies, Science, Religion
Some of the benefits:
·         Encourages good work habits
·         Reinforces classroom learning
·         Promotes daily parent/student/teacher communication
Parents’ “Homework” ~ after reviewing your child’s homework, please initial their agenda.  Let me know if your child had trouble!   Homework should be a review of our daily lessons and your child will benefit from telling you how they are problem solving and completing their work.  Spending time together on homework is a powerful message that you value learning!  Look for homework to begin in October.

*MONEY*

Please send all money/checks in a sealed envelope labeled with your child’s name & Grade 2.  Thank you!

*PARTIES*

Our amazing room parents,  will coordinate class parties to celebrate Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and our First Communion reception.

*SNACKS*

We will take a snack break each morning.  Please choose healthy snacks that are easy to eat in the classroom.  It is helpful if you can also send plastic utensils, if needed.  Water bottles are welcome!  We are a NUT RESTRICTED classroom so please do not send products containing nuts or products that are made in a facility that processes tree nuts or peanuts.
